Le portrait a été offert au Musée russe en 1914 par l’impératrice Marie Feodorovna (1847−1928), veuve de l’empereur Alexandre III (1845−1894).
Cette esquisse a été réalisée par Valentin Serov pour le tableau perdu "Alexandre III et sa famille" (1893), qui se trouvait jusqu’en 1941 au musée d’art de Kharkov.
La grande-duchesse Olga Alexandrovna Romanova (1882−1960) était la fille cadette de l’empereur Alexandre III et de l’impératrice Marie Feodorovna. Elle était artiste-peintre.
Cette esquisse a été réalisée par Valentin Serov pour le tableau perdu "Alexandre III et sa famille" (1893), qui se trouvait jusqu’en 1941 au musée d’art de Kharkov.

The portrait was donated to the Russian Museum in 1914 by Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847−1928), widow of Emperor Alexander III (1845−1894).
This study was painted by Serov for the lost painting "Alexander III and His Family" (1893), which was housed in the Kharkov Art Museum until 1941.
