Le tableau a été peint sur les rives du golfe de Finlande, dans la maison de campagne de l’artiste.
Cette toile combine harmonieusement les thèmes de la jeunesse et de la liberté, incarnés par un magnifique cheval et un espace marin infini, baigné de lumière et caressé par le vent. Sur les rives du golfe de Finlande est représenté Sacha, le fils adolescent de Valantine Serov. Dans la gaieté, la luminosité et l’expressivité de l’image, les contemporains voyaient le reflet de l’esprit de l'époque, de leurs espoirs de renouveau en Russie.

The painting was created on the shore of the Gulf of Finland near the artist’s summer house.
The canvas beautifully combines themes of youth and freedom. We see a magnificent horse and the vast, windy sea filled with light. Serov’s teenage son, Sasha, is depicted on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. People saw in this joyful, bright and expressive image a reflection of the mood of the era and their hopes for the renewal of life in Russia.
